Everlasting gobstopper

This just occured to me.

Everlasting Gobstopper

As much as I love Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factoy, the ending is just ridicilous. There is absolutely no way Charlie would hand over The Everlasting Gobstopper. Ok we get it, Charlie is the bastion of honesty he’s not going to slip it to Mr. Slugworth (now working for Alan Sugar by the way) but there’s just no way he wouldn’t keep it for himself anyway. It’s an everlasting gobstopper! Why would he hand it over!? Most unplausible ending ever.

Train of thought: I was installing a wireless scanner, and still get amazed by that kind of stuff. I put a photo in the scanner and it magically floated through the air and popped up on my monitor! Just like Mike Teevee.

Related: I once did a mixtape called “The Everlasting Gobstopper mix”. When you got to the end of the tape you’d turn it over and it continued at the same point in the mix on the other side. Then when you got to the end of that side, the same thing would happen. I managed to get clear tapes with no markings at all. No A. No B. No start. No finish. An everlasting gobstopper mix. I think I got those tapes free with Cornflakes.

Yes this one is definitely getting filed under random.

I think the major flaw with this movie is the design of the actual gobstopper itself. Too many edges and points for a satisifying suck.

No it all makes sense now. That’s why he gave it back. “Here Wonka, shove it up your hole, who’d want this umpalump of gum ripping crap in their mouth for a minute, never mind forever.”

there are so many things to think about in this post that I think I broke my brain. Magical scanners, amazing gobstoppers, mixtapes with powers. (what kind of music was on it? …..

Charlie is the bastion of honesty he’s not going to slip it to Mr. Slugworth (now working for Alan Sugar by the way) – Brilliant !

    Thanks Red!

    >what kind of music was on it? ….

I think it was 80% cheese! Slightly progressive house and trancey techno phase. Two full moons and a trout might have been on it.

    Cheers!

    the ORIGINAL movie was brilliant.
the RE-Burtoning that happened isn’t worth discussing in regard to the film as a whole.
    Total garbage.

    The original end was perfect.
Charlie proved himself to be an honest, trustworthy person aware and in control of his own morality.

Unlike the jaded mouthpiece that decided “…the ending is just ridicilous. There is absolutely no way Charlie would hand over The Everlasting Gobstopper.”

    Really? NO WAY??? Absolutely?
Using qualifiers like that proves your lack of comprehension.

    try harder.

Argh… can’t resist arguing with the stupid troll. Thought I could resist… but I can’t.

Specially as he’s completely missed the point. Charlie could have easily been an “honest, trustworthy person aware and in control of his own morality” without handing over the gobstopper.

He could have quite honestly held on to the gobstopper with no intention of dealing with Slugworth, and instead cherising the one souveneir he gleaned from the best day of his life.

And Mr Wonka shouldn’t have judged Charlie on whether he handed back the gobstopper or not.

Brilliant movie. I love it. And have no desire to see Burton’s remake. But given any thought, the ending is ridicilous. There is no way Charlie would have handed the gobstopper back.

I’ve got to disagree. In all likelihood, if he and his Grandpa hadn’t stolen the Fizzy Lifting Drinks, he would have automatically gotten the factory and Wonka would have allowed him to keep the gobstopper. However, Charlie realizes that he made a mistake and the only way to rectify it is to give back the most important thing he has (the one thing Wonka entrusted him with). In turn, he proves his honesty and trustworthiness to Wonka (even though we already know it) and gains the factory.

Hi Poster. Well made point. That makes me see it all in a new light now. Wish I had another quandary just so I could sing

      Cheers!
